According to research by the Technion, a leak could kill tens of thousands of people.

“IDF Radio (Galei Zahal) reports that an ammonia tank in the Haifa Bay area was vulnerable to rocket fire during the war, despite statements by the IDF Homefront Command.
A study by the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology found that a leak of the hazardous materials could kill tens of thousands of people. The agencies responsible for protecting the storage facility disagree about the vulnerability of the ammonia tank.
Shai Cohen from the coalition for public health is sure that an ammonia leak could cause catastrophe. “When we’re talking about risks that we cannot cope with during wartime, at least inform the residents, because the disaster that could happen at the ammonia tank in Haifa Bay could cause 100,000 casualties.â€
